Use Client Feedback to Uplevel Your Business
OK, straight talk - raise your hand if...
- You ever received a not-so-flattering review from a client
- You got an email that gives you some insight you'd rather not hear
- You received one of "those phone calls" from a client, the kind we don't want
EVERYONE in business has had at least one of those happen - it isn't even that rare. Clients that are ultimately happy with their project can also give you insight into where you did a great job AND where you could improve. This is really good stuff in the long run!! WHY?! Because it can help you uplevel your business, which will definitely make those less-fun reviews much less common! Here's how:
1. Ask for Feedback!
Do you have a process in place to get feedback from your clients when a project is over?? If not, you DEFINITELY should! Be sure you ask for the good, the outstanding, and the "could use improvement" information. Your clients are the BEST barometers for how your business is REALLY doing!
2. Be HONEST
It is so easy to dismiss criticism, even if it's meant in a constructive way! We can be embarrassed, hurt, or even angry about what a client says. BUT.... if you can move those emotions to one side and be really honest with yourself, there is usually a kernel of truth in each comment. Yes, there are clients who can shoulder some blame, too. But you and I both know that we can ALLLL improve, so really examine what those clients are telling you to look for places where you SHOULD make changes. It will make your services better for the next client!
3. Note Where You Really Shine!
If you're getting a LOT of compliments for the same things - maybe a service, maybe a perk that you offer - be SURE that you remember that!! Your clients will ALWAYS tell you what they like, so deliver that over and over. It may even give you a reason to add a NEW service or to refocus on something that you do SUPER well.
4. Be Consistent
We can all be guilty of moving quickly and forgetting the steps we put in place. Or thinking "this client will never notice." But they do. They almost always do! You should deliver the same level of STELLAR service to every single client. That consistency will really make your business a go-to star! And those clients will recommend you over and over.
